#ANGELS is an investment collective founded by Chloe Sladden, Jessica Verrilli, April Underwood, Katie Stanton, Vijaya Gadde and Jana Messerschmidt in 2015. In addition to investing in phenomenal companies,  our mission is to get more women on the cap tables of successful startups. 
 
As investors, we back ambitious founders pursuing bold ideas. We collectively have a portfolio of 80+ companies across a wide range of industries. 
 
Some of our portfolio companies include Gusto, BirdVector SpaceCoinbaseNurx, CartaColor, Rival, Brandless, MoxxlyWinnie, Buoyant, Lygos, OneConcern, Carrot Fertility, Airtable, and Literati.
 
Beyond investing, we also host #ANGELS Access events and conversations to build community, diversify networks, and include and promote women in frontier fields shaping the industry.

Chloe advises start-ups, invests in early stage companies and is a board member at Gannett (NYSE: GCI, publisher of USA Today and over 100 local news organizations). 

 

Chloe’s career has focused on how technology can even the playing field and serve as a platform for people to connect, communicate and experience the world.

 

Previously, as VP of Media at Twitter, she built media partnerships and strategy from the ground up, and oversaw Twitter’s growth from a few dozen celebrities and journalists to daily participation by the majority of the world’s most high profile individuals and media companies. She was responsible for the quality of Twitter’s content across news, music, TV, sports and politics. Her team ensured Twitter was indelibly woven into traditional and new media, from hashtags and live voting on TV, to being the best place to find and report on breaking news. She established Twitter as an influential engagement metric that moved ad dollars, and helped build Twitter's media ecosystem, a key component of Twitter’s growth.

Jessica Verrilli is a General Partner at GV (Google Ventures). She was previously VP of Corporate Development and Strategy at Twitter, where she was co-head of a world-class team responsible for all global acquisitions, investments, integrations, and cross-functional strategy projects at the company. This work catalyzed many of the most important product, engineering, and business initiatives at Twitter, including 30+ acquisitions. Jessica was at Twitter for 8.5 years and as an early employee had the unique opportunity to work for all three CEOs: Ev Williams, Dick Costolo and Jack Dorsey.

Prior to Twitter Jessica worked in venture capital, both at Google Ventures (as a Partner) and Venrock (as an Associate). Jessica is an avid trail runner and on the board of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Jessica graduated from Stanford University where she was a Mayfield Fellow and Division I Varsity Lacrosse player. She loves the Bay Area although the Pacific Northwest will always feel like home. Katie Jacobs Stanton is the Chief Marketing Officer of Color, a personal health service that helps people understand their risk for common hereditary conditions including cancer and heart disease. Prior to Color, Katie was the Vice President of Global Media responsible for building media partnerships around the world and across strategic verticals including news, television, sports, fashion and music. Prior to this role, Katie ran the International team at Twitter which established key partnerships and Twitter offices in the UK, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Australia, France and India, among others.

 

Prior to Twitter, Katie worked for the White House, State Department, Google, Yahoo! and Chase Manhattan Bank. Katie is on the Board of Vivendi, a French multinational media company headquartered in Paris, and was on the Board of Time Inc. from 2017-2018. She earned a M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University and a B.A. in Political Science from Rhodes College. She is @katies on Twitter.

Vijaya Gadde is Twitter’s Chief Legal Officer, leading the company’s legal, trust and safety, and public policy teams. She also serves as a Trustee for New York University Law School. Previously, she served as a Legal Director at Twitter, where she managed the international and corporate legal teams.

 

Prior to joining Twitter in 2011, Vijaya was Senior Director, Legal at Juniper Networks; previously, for nearly a decade, she was an associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. While at WSGR, Vijaya acted as counsel to the New York Stock Exchange’s Proxy Working Group and Committee on Corporate Governance. She earned a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.

Jana Messerschmidt invests in early stage companies, as well as advises. She sits at the intersection of business + technology, having held a variety of roles across engineering, business development, sales and marketing throughout her career. In 2018, she joined Lightspeed Venture Partners and focuses on early stage investing across a variety of industries. 

 

Jana served as Vice President of Global Business Development and Platform at Twitter where she was responsible for strategic partnerships, enterprise sales, developer relations, partner engineering and platform marketing. Prior to joining Twitter, Jana was Director of Business Development at Netflix where she focused on building Netflix's early streaming partnerships. Earlier in her career, she worked at both DivX and AT&T.

 

She has a B.S. in Computer Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is @janamal on Twitter.

April Underwood is Chief Product Officer at Slack, where she oversees product strategy and execution. April also drives key growth initiatives including product marketing and developer relations.

 

Prior to Slack April was at Twitter for nearly five years where she held a variety of leadership roles in product management, business development, and product marketing. Prior to joining Twitter, April was a product manager and software engineer at Travelocity and a senior partner technology manager at Google.

 

April has an MBA from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at Berkeley and a BBA in Management Information Systems from the The University of Texas at Austin. She was named one Fortune’s “40 Under 40” in 2016, as well as one of the “Most Creative People of 2015” by Fast Company magazine.
